Liverpool defender Joe Gomez tries not to think about any opinions coming from outside the club.

The 18-year-old has enjoyed a vibrant start to life as a Reds player and says he attempts to learn and become better only by listening to those that matter rather than outside influences.

"There are a lot of things that can affect your confidence, such as the media, but personally I try and focus on myself and take in the opinions that are the most valuable to me, such as my family and the manager and the coaching staff," said the former Charlton Athletic youngster.

"You're going to make mistakes but you have to take lessons from them and be positive on move on. If you're not confident on the pitch you can't express yourself."
