Liverpool skipper Gerrard proud as he chases down game No500

Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard is nearing his 500th game for the club.

Gerrard is currently on 494 Liverpool appearances and told LFC Weekly magazine: "Obviously it's something that I'm really proud of, to be getting close to 500 games for Liverpool.

"Growing up it was always my dream to play for Liverpool and I'd have been happy as a kid kicking a ball about if I only got to play one game for the club, so to have got to 500 games will mean a lot to me and my family and friends.

"When the people above you on the list of appearances are people like Kenny Dalglish then it's special to be in that kind of company. Kenny is a legend, one of the greatest footballers of all time so to have played for this club as many times as he has is extra special.

"But Kenny won league titles, European Cups and every other kind of honour in his Liverpool career and that's what I want too for myself and for this team. I don't just want to play games, I want to be a part of a Liverpool side that is in there winning prizes year in and year out."
