Liverpool skipper Gerrard: I'm over spotkick jitters

Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard feels he's over his penalty hoodoo.

Gerrard struck twice from the spot in Sunday's 5-0 romp over Aston Villa.

Though missed from 12 yards as England crashed out of the World Cup to Portugal in 2006.

But he insists he has finally conquered his demons.

He revealed: "I've got more confident the more penalties I've taken. Missing doesn't ever enter my thoughts now. I used to miss the odd pen here and there because I was frightened.

"I'd beat myself up before I'd hit it.

"I've grown into taking pens and I always feel as if I'm going to score. I wouldn't be hitting them otherwise."
