Liverpool skipper Gerrard hopes Henderson can be his replacement

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard hopes new signing Jordan Henderson can replace him in the centre of midfield for the Reds.

The 20-year old completed a £20million transfer from Sunderland last night and now Gerrard is pinning his hopes on the England U21 international leading a new era at Anfield.

"It's a really positive signing. Let's hope he is the next Steven Gerrard," Gerrard told liverpoolfc.tv.

"That's what good football clubs do - they replace their best players. Liverpool needs a new Steven Gerrard and it will need a new Jamie Carragher.

"I saw Jordan at first hand for two or three days with England and he is a good player with energy."
