Liverpool's England captain Steven Gerrard was happy to deliver victory to Roy Hodgson on debut.
England beat Norway 1-0 thanks to a goal from Manchester United winger Ashley Young.
"It was good not just for me but for everyone," said Gerrard.
"When a new manager comes in there is a bit of pressure. A nice win, clean sheet, there were quite a few positives.
"It's always nice to lead the country out but what is more important is that I won as captain. You are judged on winning games and it was nice to get off to a winning start."
