Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard was booed by Tranmere Rovers fans last night.
The Times says Gerrard scored last night for a Liverpool XI as he swapped the suit and tie for the more familiar attire of a red No 8 shirt in a friendly against Tranmere Rovers.
The goal did little to quell the booing Gerrard received whenever he touched the ball, however, a depressing precursor of what no doubt is to come from opposing fans this season.
The Liverpool captain was cleared of affray after a week-long trial at Liverpool Crown Court and seven hours later stepped out at Prenton Park. Gerrard, who played for just over an hour, was comfortably the biggest name on display and hit a 20-yard second-half strike in a 2-2 draw.
