Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard is upset with the criticism of new England squad member Jordan Henderson.

The Reds youngster has been called in to replace crocked Chelsea star Frank Lampard.

England skipper Gerrard said: "I'm well aware of the criticism Jordan has received throughout the season but full credit to him for playing through it.

"People judge him on his price tag rather than his age, his potential and what he's going to do in the future.

"I was nowhere near the finished article in my early 20s and had a lot of learning and improving to do.

"Jordan will do the same and prove everyone wrong.

"I guarantee the public will change their mind about him."
