Liverpool's Sturridge: I tried to head it but missed!

Daniel Sturridge admits he missed his header which led to Liverpool's first goal of Sunday's 3-1 win at Sunderland.

The 24-year old netted his fifth league goal of the season in the 28th minute at the Stadium of Light when he attempted to head home Steven Gerrard's 28th minute corner but instead the ball crept in off his arm.

Sturridge says he did miss the ball with his head but insists he did not intentionally put the ball into the back of his net with his arm.

"It was a great ball in from Stevie and I've obviously tried to head it, but I guess my heading's not good enough is it?" he told Sky Sports.

"I've missed the ball and it's gone in off my arm but I wouldn't do that on purpose and sometimes these things happen."
