Liverpool's 'soloist' Gerrard not capable of replacing Chelsea's Terry as England skipper - Desailly

Former Chelsea defender Marcel Desailly believes England captain Steven Gerrard cannot make up for the loss of John Terry's leadership.

The Chelsea skipper retired from international duty on Sunday and his former Blues teammate feels that Liverpool's Gerrard is not enough of a leader to influence the Three Lions group.

"The English team loses a lot. John is a leader. He is the captain, Steven Gerrard is not," Desailly told Sport24.

"Gerrard is a soloist, a great player but has no impact off the field. In the life of the group, the leader is John Terry."
