Liverpool's Rodgers hails Toure: 'His character is contagious'

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has heaped praise on veteran defender Kolo Toure.

The 33-year old Ivory Coast centre-back made just his third start of the season when playing a full 90 minutes in the 1-0 Champions League loss to Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday night.

Toure put in an inspirational effort in keeping the red-hot Cristiano Ronaldo off the scoresheet and his spirit and attitude certainly left a positive mark on his manager.

"Kolo was outstanding on the night and it is a great mark of his professionalism that he can come in and play as well as he did," said Rodgers ahead of Saturday's home clash with league leaders Chelsea.

"One of the reasons we wanted to bring him in was because he was the right type of character.

"He knew that he may not play as many games as he has done in the past but his influence off the field and his character is contagious."
