Liverpool's Rodgers buoyed by fighting Suarez return

Brendan Rodgers was happy with the performance of Luis Suarez in Liverpool's 1-0 Capital One Cup loss to Manchester United on Wednesday night.

The Uruguayan striker returned to action with the Reds following a 10-match ban for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic last season and got through a full 90 minutes as the Anfield club were dumped from the league cup competition.

"He tired towards the end but was always a threat," he told Sky Sports 1.

"He did very well considering the amount of time he had been out.

"He is a fighter.

"He will recover now and get ready for the weekend."

Liverpool, sitting fifth on the Premier League table, face Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Sunday.
