Liverpool's Lucas: We deserved to beat Man Utd

Lucas Leiva is adamant that Liverpool deserved to beat reigning Premier League champions Manchester United on the weekend.

The Reds dominated for long periods at Anfield on Saturday but were denied by a late Javier Hernandez goal to be held to a 1-1 draw after Steven Gerrard's opener.

Lucas, who picked up a fourth yellow card of the season against United, feels that the Reds were desperately unlucky to not come away with a big victory at home but is confident the performance will bode well for the remainder of the campaign.

"Unfortunately I will be out of the game because I am suspended, but I will be cheering the players on," he told liverpoolfc.tv ahead of this weekend's meeting with Norwich City.

"I think we deserved to win against Manchester United.

"We played really well and now we have to take the positives into the next game, hopefully get the three points and be closer to the top four.

"I think there is more to come [from Liverpool]. There are a lot of new players that came in over the summer and it always takes time to settle and build an understanding between the players.

"I think there is a lot to come and hopefully it will be a successful season for us."
