Liverpool's Kuyt feels Gerrard should be England captain

Liverpool's Dirk Kuyt believes teammate Steven Gerrard should be the man to lead the England national team.

The Reds midfielder was overlooked for the role when the Three Lions took on Holland on Wednesday night, with the armband going to Tottenham's Scott Parker, but Dutchman Kuyt has backed his Anfield pal as the best man for the job.

"For me Stevie is the main one for the England team to be the captain," Kuyt said.

"On and off the pitch he is such a personality. Of course, it is up to the manager of England who makes the decision.

"But in my eyes he is the main one. He is the perfect leader for Liverpool and the perfect leader for the England team."
