Liverpool's Henderson clinches England U21 prize

Jordan Henderson has been named the England U21 Player of the Year for 2012.

The 22-year old Liverpool midfielder edged teammate Martin Kelly and Crystal Palace young gun Wilfried Zaha to claim the award following an impressive 2012 campaign, mainly as U21 captain.

Henderson led the Young Lions to six wins from six outings last year as his side qualified for Euro2013 and received 36% of a fans' vote on TheFA.com to claim the very first version of the award.

Young Lions manager Stuart Pearce said: "He's very valuable to our group and puts the team before himself every time. He deserves every success as he works so hard.

"Jordan's been pivotal in pushing us towards the Euros in the summer."
