Following a second straight Champions League group stage loss, Liverpool find themselves in a precarious position to progress in the competition.
The Reds surrendered a one-goal lead to lose 2-1 to Lyon at Anfield and now face an uphill battle to get themselves into the top two of Group E.
Presently, Liverpool are sitting third in the four-team group on just three points from the first three matches and are six points behind group leaders Lyon and three behind Fiorentina.
With the return legs remaining, Liverpool need things to go their way to make it past the initial stage and defender Jamie Carragher is confident it can be done.
"It's a massive disappointment, a bad result which leaves us a lot to do," he told Sky Sports 2.
"We're going through a tough patch but we've been through them before, we will come through no doubt.
"We have great fight and character. We had a lot of young lads out there tonight, if we could have hung on (for a draw) it would have been a good result."
Reds boss Rafael Benitez echoed Carragher's sentiments.
"We have come back before - and we can do it again," he said.
"We now must be ready for the next match. I have confidence that we have the quality to overcome these problems.
"We have to push players now, to keep working and to maintain our confidence."
