Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard admits he was surprised when Chelsea allowed Daniel Sturridge to leave the club.
The 24-year old England international and former Manchester City striker, joined the Reds from Chelsea in January this year and has already scored 18 Premier League goals in 25 appearances.
Gerrard suggests Sturridge has what it takes to become a top quality attacker and hopes he can continue his brilliant start to life on Merseyside.
"I was surprised Chelsea let him go," he said. "I had seen flashes of Daniel at Manchester City and also Chelsea and really liked what I saw.
"But now I have worked with him at close quarters on a daily basis, in the games for Liverpool and England, I'm a huge fan.
"The stage is set for Daniel to go and prove to everyone that he is a top-class forward. He's certainly got the talent and ability to do it."
