Liverpool's Dalglish rubbishes claims that Suarez is a diver

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has joined the Luis Suarez diving debate and has vehemently backed his star striker.

There has been recent criticism towards the Uruguayan international for his propensity to go down with ease following a red card given to Everton's Jack Rodwell more than three weeks ago and few other instances which have irked opposition defenders.

But Dalglish pointed out an incident in last night's 2-1 Carling Cup win at Stoke City in which Suarez, who scored both of his sides goals, had the chance to go down in a challenge from Jonathan Woodgate but stayed on his feet and it brought about a game-ending injury.

"He got kicked right at the end of the first half. He turned Jonathan Woodgate," the Scot told the club's official website.

"He made contact with him, but he tried to stay on his feet to take the chance. That's where he hurt his leg.

"That just emphasises what we say about the wee man. He had the opportunity to stay on his feet (and did)."
