Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez admits that a 1-0 loss to Wigan on Monday night was a fair result.

The Reds lacked quality against a Latics outfit who had not won in seven matches and Benitez was brutally honest in his assessment of the match.

"I think so (a fair result)," he told ESPN.

"I think we didn't play well, especially in the first half. We didn't show attitude.

"That is very clear, especially in the first half," he added.

"We're not happy. We have to show more character if we want to be in top four."
