Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez admitted he was just happy to come away with three points after a so-so performance against Wigan on Wednesday night.
The Reds went ahead in just the 9th minute at Anfield thanks to David Ngog before substitute Fernando Torres - in his 100th league appearance for the club - made it 2-0 ten minutes from time before Charles N'Zogbia managed a consolation goal for Wigan in the dying stages.
The Spaniard was more relieved than pleased but said he will happily take some vital points as they go into an away clash with bottom of the table Portsmouth on Saturday.
"It was very important to win, to get three points, with a lot of positives," said Benitez.
"It does not matter if we couldn't score more goals and be more relaxed in the second half but, at the end of the day, three points is key.
"We needed to get these three points and be ready for the next game. We are thinking about one game at a time so now Portsmouth (on Saturday) is the target."
Benitez admits Liverpool could have put the game beyond Wigan's reach in the first half but was no focused on getting two wins on the trot.
"We had some chances - Yossi Benayoun had one, Ngog had one - and if you score the second goal everything changes," added the manager.
"The main thing for us now is talking about [winning] games in a row, starting at Portsmouth."
