Liverpool's Adam putting criticism behind him to lead Scotland charge

Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam says he is ready to put past criticisms behind him and help guide Scotland to the European Championships.

Adam has slowly but steadily made it to the top after being a whipping boy at Rangers and is ready to help the Scots get the points they require to qualify for the tournament in Poland and Ukraine next year.

The 25-year old also brushed off comments made by Wolves winger Stephen Hunt that he thinks he is bigger than he really is.

"That's life, you get criticism," he said ahead of tomorrow's Group I qualifier against the Czech Republic at Hampden Park.

"If Hunt wants to say that then he can. At least it means he's not talking about somebody else.

"I know how good I am and he must know how good he is. That's how life works.

"When you get stick it's just about reacting to it in the right way.

"When I left Rangers I had a real desire to prove people wrong.

"You are always going to have doubters but you want to prove them wrong.

"Thankfully I've done that, but I'll never take anything for granted as I know how easy it is to fall back out of the picture.

"Going to Blackpool could have gone either way.

"I could still be sitting there and could have been for five years, just playing away every week.

"Ian Holloway was top class with me. People thought Blackpool was a step back, but I knew it was a step forward because I would be playing every week and I could show everyone what I was capable of. I did that and now I'm at Liverpool I want to kick on again. It's a massive club.

"Everyone knows how big Liverpool are, but it's not until you sign for them you realise how big.

"We went to Asia in the summer and had 80,000 people watching us train, it was incredible.

"With Scotland's it's all about qualifying for a major tournament and adding that to the CV."
