Liverpool rocked by Gerrard groin injury

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has suffered a new injury setback.

The Daily Mail says Rafa Benitez faces a critical decision on Gerrard's fitness today as the success of Liverpool's season hangs in the balance.

Tests revealed last night that the team's talisman had suffered another groin strain during the 3-1 Champions League defeat by Chelsea.

After sensationally blowing the Premier League title race open in recent weeks, the Spaniard must now decide whether to risk aggravating the injury by playing the inspirational Gerrard against Blackburn tomorrow or rest him until next week's return leg against Chelsea.

The scan confirmed Gerrard has suffered a strain in his adductor muscle, but he has made it clear he is ready to play through the pain.

Benitez and his medical staff are wary of the possible repercussions and may reluctantly conclude he needs to rest.
