Liverpool have rejected RB Leipzig's terms for Naby Keita to join them in January.
Liverpool wanted to bring their summer signing to Anfield half a season early but the Bundesliga club insisted on a top-up payment far beyond what the Reds were willing to offer.
BILD says Leipzig made a take-it-or-leave-it offer of €20million (£17.8m), which Liverpool refused to pay, knowing the player would be theirs in six months anyway.
It says Keita and his agent, Bjorn Bezemer, were in discussions with RB Leipzig up until Sunday.
But sporting director Ralf Rangnick insisted the player would not leave, saying: "Even Naby and his advisor have accepted this decision."
Keita will join Liverpool in June for £70m.
