Liverpool have rejected an ambitious bid from Chelsea for Raul Meireles.
The Daily Mail says Chelsea are weighing up their next move after failing with a player plus cash offer for Meireles. The Liverpool midfielder is out for ten days with a collarbone injury but still wanted by Andre Villas-Boas.
However, a bid of £8million plus Yossi Benayoun for Meireles has been rebuffed by Liverpool and Chelsea's manager must now decide whether to return with improved terms before the transfer window closes.
Meireles, 28, briefly worked with Villas-Boas at FC Porto last year before he left to join Liverpool in an £11.5million deal. Meireles has lost his place in Kenny Dalglish's side but Liverpool would look to recoup what they paid for Meireles.
