Liverpool are preparing a bid for Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.

The Guardian says Liverpool want Mignolet to replace Pepe Reina, should their Spanish goalkeeper depart this summer.

Reina had been expected to join Barcelona before Víctor Valdés declared last week his intention to run down the final 12 months of his Nou Camp deal.

Despite the U-turn, manager Brendan Rodgers is continuing with his search to sign a replacement before the new campaign.
