Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is waiting for the green light from Manchester City to move for Micah Richards.
City boss Manuel Pellegrini will seek to have Pablo Zabaleta and incoming Bacary Sagna from Arsenal share right back responsibilities, leaving current cover Richards out in the cold.
With the 25-year-old now surplus to requirements, Rodgers will look to capitalise with a £7m bid.
The only potential hitch in the deal is City's reluctance to sell to a domestic rival, after both teams went neck-and-neck for the Premier League title.
