Liverpool are pushing to rumble Napoli hopes of signing Lazio defender Modibo Diakite.

Diakite comes off contract at the end of the season and has decided to move on from his Rome club.

Napoli believed they had agreed terms with Diakite's camp over a Bosman deal, however a long-term contract remains unsigned.

It's understood stalling Diakite has a rival offer from Liverpool, where Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has lined him up as one of two planned central defensive signings for the summer.

Fulham and Norwich City are also keeping tabs on developments.
