Liverpool playmaker Aquilani: Marijana has helped me over injury woes

Liverpool ace Alberto Aquilani feels he's fully over his injury woes.

Aquilani says he has learned from his mistakes over his fitness.

"Injuries are normal in the career of a footballer and these things will always happen," he stressed to the News of the World. "Perhaps I came back too early in December against Fiorentina in the Champions League but the team needed my contribution and I did not want to let anyone down.

"It was the same with Roma last season against Arsenal in the Champions League. I played perhaps too early but I'd do it again today."

Aquilani visited controversial Serbian 'placenta' doctor Marijana Kovacevic in December to treat a niggling calf injury.

A few days later, he was in the Reds starting line-up to face Wanderers.

And despite being sceptical at first, the Italian is now a big fan of the doctor who has also treated Glen Johnson, Yossi Benayoun, Albert Riera and Fabio Aurelio.

He said: "It was a technique that produced brilliant results for me. Of course, I hope I will not need to return to Serbia again but it was a good decision to go. To tell you the truth, I did not know Marijana Kovacevic existed before I spoke with Yossi about her.

"I learned she had also worked with Arsenal's Robin van Persie and Chelsea's Frank Lampard.

"In agreement with the Liverpool medical staff, I decided to fly to Belgrade to find out more about this kind of therapy and meet her.

"I learned that even Darko Kovacevic and many other Serbian national team players were subjected to those massages with placenta.

"It sounds a strange approach but the results speak for themselves."
