Liverpool are believed to be plotting a surprise bid for Manchester United winger Ashley Young.

The Daily Star is reporting the Merseyside club are preparing to table an £8million offer for 30-year-old Young.

It is understood Reds boss Brendan Rodgers sees Young as a potential replacement for the departed Raheem Sterling and the impending of arrival of Barcelona winger Pedro at Old Trafford could force a possible move.

Young is also believed to be on the radar of Tottenham and Newcastle United but conflicting reports suggest that United are set to offer the former Aston Villa man a new three-year deal.
