Liverpool plan to use Adebayor to assist Mascherano case

Liverpool intend to use Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor in their bid to defend Javier Mascherano from a lengthy ban.

The Sun says Masch refused to leave the field after his second booking for dissent in last month's 3-0 Premier League defeat at Manchester United.

But the Reds have found nearly 12 cases in the last five years where players failed to walk after red cards.

One of the prime culprits is Adebayor, who was dismissed in the 2007 Carling Cup final after swinging a punch at Chelsea's Frank Lampard.

Adebayor, 24, received only an extra one-game ban on top of the three for the sending off, plus a £7,500 fine.

Liverpool fear Masch will be harshly dealt with as his offence came at the start of the FA's RESPECT campaign.
