Liverpool's owners have given manager Brendan Rodgers the green light to move for Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso. The Daily Star says Rodgers had been given the go-ahead to move for Alonso despite the fact he's now 31.

But the stumbling block for BR is the player, himself, with Alonso favouring a switch to Jose Mourinho's Chelsea.
