Liverpool owners to back Benitez in market

Liverpool's co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett are ready to loosen the purse strings to allow manager Rafa Benitez to spend big on transfers this year.

The Sun says the Americans expect to finalise a £350million package with the Royal Bank of Scotland and US bank Wachovia today.

And they now hope loosening the purse strings for boss Benitez will see them back in favour with fans.

Liverpool will almost double their money when Momo Sissoko's £9m move to Juve goes through. The Mali midfielder, 23, has held talks with boss Claudio Ranieri and expects to sign over the weekend.
