Montreal have dropped their MLS franchise bid.
The leagueâs commissioner, Don Garber, said: âMontreal has dropped out.
âIf they can get their bid together they could come in at another time. I think they had to evaluate their private capitalization to expand their stadium, and Iâm not sure they were able to come to terms.â
The Montreal bid was being supported by Joey Saputo, the owner of the Montreal Impact of the United Soccer Leagues First Division, and George Gillett, the owner of the N.H.L. Montreal Canadiens and the part-owner of Liverpool of the English Premier League.
âThat market is not gone forever, but it is gone for now,â Garber said.
