Liverpool not in the market to buy Melbourne Victory

English Premier League club Liverpool are not about to buy A-League outfit Melbourne Victory.

Recent reports had suggested that the Victory were seeking to sell to the Anfield side but insiders of the Melbourne club told The Age that this is not the case.

Victory chairman Anthony Di Pietro will attend Liverpool's home clash with Premier League leaders Arsenal on Saturday but will not be present to pitch a sale to the Merseysiders.

He will, however, be looking to consolidate a commercial and marketing relationship following the Reds' successful visit to Melbourne last year.

Additionally, a Liverpool spokesman told Fox Sports: "There is absolutely nothing in this whatsoever. I obviously can't speak for any future intentions the club might have but right now there is nothing in this at all."

Reports emerged of the Victory's possible sale to Liverpool after Manchester City purchased an 80% majority shareholding in Melbourne rivals the Heart last month.
