Liverpool to monitor Sakho, Sturridge

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers insists the club will assess two injured stars ahead of the weekend's clash with Newcastle United.

Central defender Mamadou Sakho and striker Daniel Sturridge were substituted at Ewood Park in the Reds' eventual 1-0 FA Cup quarter-final replay win over Blackburn Rovers.

Sakho was replaced by Kolo Toure in the 28th minute with a hamstring problem while Sturridge came off for Rickie Lambert in the 85th minute with general stiffness.

"We'll see [with Sakho] in the morning," said Rodgers in the wake of the triumph.

"He felt his hamstring tighten, so we'll just need to see it.

"Daniel Sturridge had a bit of tightness, so we took him off and we'll assess that tomorrow."
