Liverpool midfielder Wijnaldum: Why I didn't console Karius...

Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum explained why he chose not to console Loris Karius at the end of Saturday's Champions League final defeat.

The German's two shocking errors handed Real Madrid the trophy on a plate.

Liverpool's players were criticised on social media as the first players to console Karius appeared to be wearing the white of Real Madrid.

Players and staff from the defeated Reds did go over and lend a reassuring arm after a few minutes, but the Dutch midfielder admitted he found the result "hugely frustrating."

Wijnaldum said: "I didn't say anything because a lot of people already went to him and sometimes you don't like it when too many people come.

"It's not the ending we wanted for our Champions League campaign but sometimes these things happen in football.

"It is hugely frustrating and we can't change it."

Wijnaldum added: "It is always difficult to say what we can do, it depends on so many different things as to how we do next season.

"I have confidence. We have learned a lot this season, we learned a lot the season before so hopefully we can achieve great things."
