Shelvey believes that if he remains grounded, with a bit of help from his club-mates and his mother, he can become an important player for Liverpool.
"There has been a lot of media attention around him this week about him being in the England squad and I think he fully deserves it," he told talkSPORT.
"I know people are saying that he needs to keep his feet on the ground but I genuinely believe he is a nice lad. He isn't one of these ones who will start listening to the media.
"He lives with his mum and has got a great family behind him and the people at the club, and the boss, have said to him if he keeps listening to the experienced players in the team and he keeps doing what he's doing then he's going to be a great player for this club."
