Liverpool may be without Suarez for Melbourne trip

Liverpool's Luis Suarez may miss the July trip to Australia because of international duties.

The Uruguayan striker is likely to be involved in the Confederations Cup which runs from June 15 - 30 in Brazil and that could force the Reds not to bring him down under in July for fear of burning him out.

"If Luis is playing in that tournament, he may not be back at the start of pre-season for us because he needs to have a recovery period," Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers said.

"There will be an individual pattern for every player. The idea is to get everyone back in the summer as soon as possible to have a real push next year."

Liverpool takes on A-League club Melbourne Victory on July 24 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground as part of their pre-season preparations for the 2013/14 Premier League season.
