Liverpool management upset over reports of Robertson being offered new contract

Liverpool management is upset over reports of Andrew Robertson being offered a new contract.

The Liverpool Echo says Robertson still has three-and-a-half years to run on the contract he penned on his arrival in July 2017.

His current contract is heavily incentivised which means that his development has already been recognised financially by the Reds.

Anfield officials believe it's unfair on the player to suggest that there is a new deal on the table as when inevitably no announcement is forthcoming it would look like he's stalling or dragging out negotiations. That couldn't be further from the truth.

Liverpool are convinced that he's the long-term answer to what had previously been a position of glaring weakness. Alberto Moreno is destined to leave as a free agent next summer with Academy youngster Adam Lewis in contention to step up.

Another contract for Robertson will be forthcoming but there's no rush.
