Gomez saw an August move to Anfield blocked by Bayern last year - but almost saw a switch pulled off yesterday.
Immediately after agreeing to sell Fernando Torres to Chelsea, Liverpool sounded out Bayern about Gomez's availability.
The enquiry was made after Newcastle United had rejected their opening offer for Andy Carroll in the morning.
