Liverpool loan system stalls move for Stoke star Shaqiri

Stoke City are facing a potential financial setback if they pursue their current course in the negotiations with Liverpool for Xherdan Shaqiri.

Liverpool have made their interest in the player known, who has a £13.5 million release clause as the club was relegated from the Premier League.

Stoke are hoping that in addition to that fee, Liverpool will include a player in the deal on loan.

The players being discussed include Ben Woodburn, Harry Wilson and Sheyi Ojo.

But the issue is that Liverpool have a policy of fining clubs who loan their players but then do not play them for a set amount of games.

The Reds expect that players participate in 75 percent of games if they go on loan.

Stoke will have to think carefully about the player they want on loan and whether they could fit them into the first team.
