Liverpool legend Xabi Alonso can see Steven Gerrard as a future manager at Anfield.

Alonso was delighted to see his former team-mate return to Liverpool in a coaching role at the Academy last month.

He told the Liverpool Echo: “For sure, you always think Stevie needs to be involved in the club.

“I think it's good for him to take it little by little and to gain experience.

“I don't know when but some day I believe he will manage Liverpool. I think he will. He has the credentials.

“I think he's smart enough and intelligent enough to make that transition and to prepare himself for whenever he thinks he's ready to try it."
