Phil Thompson has urged Liverpool to make a bid to sign wanted Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The European hotshot has netted 13 times in 15 appearances so far this season, and has also scored a total of 56 goals in the past two Bundesliga campaigns.

Jurgen Klopp has recently received £142 million from the sale of star playmaker Phillip Coutinho to Barcelona

The former Reds defender told Sky Sports: "We need to go for high quality. I'd rather see the club take their time rather than hastily spend it on players who might not be up to it

"The players we brought in after selling [Luis] Suarez were a mix of hits and misses. We have got to spend it wisely this time and I would rather see it spent on a big player.

"Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is one who would be on my list and somebody you could get.

"It would certainly be that quality you'd be looking for, although he would need to have the right work ethic."

The 28 year-old has also been linked with Arsenal and up until recently was rumoured to be heading to Real Madrid.
