Liverpool legend Souness: Spurs striker Kane can match Shearer

Liverpool legend Graeme Souness says Tottenham striker Harry Kane can match the feats of Alan Shearer.

Kane has scored 24 Premier League goals for title-chasing Spurs this season and has drawn comparisons with Shearer, who is the all-time top goalscorer in the English top flight with 260 goals.

Speaking on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football, Souness said: "I think he is the nearest thing to Alan Shearer. Shearer is the greatest centre forward England has ever had - the stats would suggest that - and I think Kane will come close to him.

"The only thing I can see stopping him being that type of player is if he gets a bad knock. He's still a baby and in his second year in the Premier League.

"He's a goalscorer of all types of goals and a workaholic. I think I read somewhere that Glenn Hoddle was his hero and as fabulous as Glenn was, I don't want him to be a Glenn Hoddle because I think he's a goal threat. I want him further up the pitch.

"For someone so young, if you look at the position he takes up to get on the ball, it shows me he has a football brain; similar to Dele Alli.

"He is their (Tottenham's) main man and he'll be their main man for the next 10 years if they can hold on to him."
