Liverpool legend Rush: Ridiculous people writing off Dalglish

Liverpool icon Ian Rush is delighted seeing Kenny Dalglish prove his doubters wrong.

Rush is full of pride at the way his old strike partner, and then boss, Dalglish is drilling into the club's history to demand high standards from the current squad, including new signings like Stewart Downing, Charlie Adam and England Under-21 star Jordan Henderson.

Rush told the Sunday Mirror: "It made me laugh when people were saying he had been out of the game too long to come back to management.

"They didn't understand that he's only interested in Liverpool football club and for the last two years he'd been to every game, and knew every player from the youngest kid in the Academy right up to the biggest name in the first team.

"He is steeped in the history of the club, and if you think modern players don't care about that then let me tell you that the ones who work for Kenny Dalglish do.

"I think Sir Alex Ferguson has achieved the same thing at Manchester United - he gets the players to understand the history of the club, the significance and size of it.

"It's important. Players have to understand that playing for Liverpool is more than just a job, it's something special for the fans and community.

"That's where Kenny can be so effective. He'll tell them that nobody is bigger than the football club, and if you are hearing that from the best player ever to play for Liverpool then that is a statement in itself."
