Liverpool legend Steve Nicol is convinced Chris Smalling and Phil Jones will leave Manchester United at the end of the season.

United boss Mourinho slammed the Red Devils duo - who have been sidelined for seven games - earlier this week, claiming they should be returning from their injuries sooner.

Nicol has launched a scathing attack on the Special One, claiming his treatment of Smalling and Jones will force the pair out.

“If you have a problem with a player, you sit them in front of you and you tell them what you think - whether you think they're fit, or you don't trust them," Nicol told ESPN.

“You don't come out and do what he has done to his players.

“I'd be shocked if Smalling and Jones are still at Manchester United next season.

“If I was one of those two, I wouldn't want to play for him next year."
