Liverpool legend Molby credits team selection for form slump

Liverpool legend Jan Molby believes it is the manager Jurgen Klopp's tinkering that has caused a mini slump in form for the Reds.

The Reds were on an impressive run of scoring goals and winning games, before the manager made a few changes to the first team for the clash against Everton at Anfield.

And Molby believes it was a mistake.

"I thought we had momentum after Spartak, everyone was in good form and we looked unplayable at times," he said.

"We don't know what would have happened if we started a different 11 against Everton but I didn't for one minute think we would make that number of changes for the derby game.

"I thought we'd use the Moscow game going into the derby and get the three points.

He is not sure why Klopp made so many changes. Perhaps it was always the plan. However, Molby believes that when you get such a great result, such as the thumping of Spartak, it makes sense to give the same eleven the chance to repeat the performance in the next game.

"We don't know what would have happened but I agree with people who were frustrated over the fact we made so many changes. I think it was excessive.

"Maybe one or two of the players are a little heavy-legged. We do rely heavily on our energy and our pace so if you take a little bit off that you can look a little bit ordinary.

"Tempo is not always about how quick you move, it's about how quick you move the ball and see things.

"That's been a problem the last two games. We haven't been quick or decisive enough, not getting the ball into key areas quick enough.

"It's about being sharper in your brain, seeing things quicker."

Klopp has a chance to get his team back to winning ways as Liverpool go to Bournemouth and Arsenal in the next two games.
