Liverpool legend Keegan: Carroll will never be £35M player

Liverpool legend Kevin Keegan says Andy Carroll isn't worth £35 million.

Former England boss Keegan managed Carroll in his second spell at Newcastle United and says the striker was not ready for his big-money move.

Keegan told the Sunday Express: "He's a decent player but he's not a £35m player. If you're paying £35m, you should be getting an instant, ready-made, world-class guy.

"When they bought (Luis) Suarez, he was a proven goalscorer at international level, who had won the Golden Boot with Ajax. He couldn't have been more different to Andy Carroll."

Keegan added: "If you asked Carroll if he thought that at this stage he'd be a £35m player for one of the biggest clubs in the world, he'd probably say no.

"Liverpool paid such a big fee because of the Torres situation and they must have known, like I know and everyone else knows, that he's not worth £35m and probably never will be."
