Liverpool legend Ray Houghton believes a top four finish is not out of reach.
Nine points currently separate Brendan Rodgers' side from the top four and Champions League qualification, and Houghton considers the competition to be wide open.
"This season, more than any other, fourth place is up for grabs between Tottenham, Arsenal, Everton and Liverpool," the 51-year-old told talkSPORT.
"The next few matches will show us exactly where they are.
"I'd love to see them up there competing for a top four position. In the middle of November, I actually thought there was a chance.
"If you looked at their run of games, they only had Tottenham who were a top-four side to play - and I felt if Liverpool could have a consistent run they'd be close to the top four.
"They're not too far away.
"They're nowhere near Manchester United or Manchester City, but they're not too far away from fourth place. If they can sustain a run between now and the end of the season, who knows?"
