Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has revealed how he demanded Gerard Houllier SACK him as captain.
Fowler had the armband in 2001 in the absence of Jamie Redknapp, who was sidelined with injury.
But Fowler was behind Emile Heskey and Michael Owen in the pecking order and he began to get frustrated at Anfield.
Fowler said:" I went in to see Gerard and said: 'I'm club captain, maybe I should be playing', He just said no I shouldn't.
"i said: 'just take the club captaincy off me because I'm not playing'.
"He couldn't believe I'd said that. There was no intention to get on the wrong side of him.
"I just felt the Liverpool captain should be the one captaining the side on the pitch."
