Liverpool legend Fowler expects Rooney to leave Man Utd

Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler is convinced Wayne Rooney will leave Manchester United at the end of this season.

The 30-year-old attracted interest from the Chinese Super League earlier this month but opted to stay put at Old Trafford.

Writing in the Sunday Mirror, Fowler said: "Listening to Wayne Rooney saying he's staying at Old Trafford, my first thought - and last - was that I won't be surprised in the slightest if he leaves at the end of the season.

"In fact, I'll be amazed if Rooney doesn't go.

"To me, it was always impossible for him to walk out in February, even if the Chinese window is still open.

"The summer is different though.

"Rooney has done his bit for Manchester United.

"He is the club's all-time top scorer, ahead of Bobby Charlton, so I reckon he's repaid their investment in him, don't you? Yeah, the money's good in China.

"In two years there he could earn equal to the amount he took in his whole Premier League career.

"I can see why he would want to do it."
